Brishti Khatun's body handed over after 11 days, father bursts into tears

At last, the body of Brishti Khatun, known as Abhishruti Shastri, was handed over to the family on Monday 11 days after her death in the Bailey Road fire on February 29.

Shahabul Alam, father of the deceased, burst into tears after taking over the body from Dhaka Medical College Hospital morgue in the afternoon.

He said, "I'm grateful to Allah that I have finally got the body of my daughter even after 11 days." At that time he thanked the administration and journalists for helping him get the body.

While crying in front of journalists, Shahabul said, "Today, I have been going door-to-door for 11 days. But I can't take over my daughter's body even being a father. How did I stay here in the last 11 days! I couldn't sleep. How can I describe her (Brishti) mother's condition! She went ill after crying repeatedly. Her two sisters are also crying."

"We fell into this suffering. Allah saved us from that situation. We got back the body after verifying the information," he added.

Md Jahangir Hossain Matubbar, additional deputy inspector general of CID Dhaka Metro, said, "Brishti's father identified his daughter's body at the burn unit on the next day of the fire incident. But Ramna Kali Mandir's president Utpal Saha claimed that the deceased name was Abhishruti Shastri. The girl used to go to the temple. In a written application, he demanded for post-mortem and DNA tests of the body and, later, taking decision on the matter. After that, the samples for post-mortem and DNA tests were collected from the morgue through a court order."

"However, Ramna Kali Mandir's president Utpal Saha again submitted an application and said, 'I have no stipulation as it was a misunderstanding. The body should be handed over to the family'," the official said.
