Police firmly committed to enabling smooth Eid journeys for all: IGP


Daily Bangla Times: Inspector General of Police Chowdhury Abdullah Al Mamun on Monday said his forces are firmly committed to make the Eid journeys smooth for all by keeping the traffic normal.


"We are determined to make the Eid journey smooth by keeping the traffic normal. Our senior officers are also on duty on the streets 24 hours a day in this regard," the IGP said.


The IGP came up with the remarks after visiting the Gabtoli bus terminal and cattle haat (temporary market) in the city on Monday



He spoke to the passengers and inquired from the traders about the safety of the sacrificial animals in the market. The IGP also distributed awareness leaflets among the passengers at the bus terminal.

"We always want to serve people by their side," he said.

Talking to reporters, the IGP  said different police units, including Metropolitan Police, River Police, Tourist Police, Armed Police Battalion (APBn), RAB and other specialized units are working together to ensure smooth Eid journey of home bound people. Administration, transport owner-workers are also working with us. We are all continuing to work tirelessly to ensure people's reach their destination safely, he added.


He requested the passengers to contact the nearest police station or 999 in case of any need.


About circulation of fake currency, the IGP said that strict legal action will be taken against anyone who tries to cheat by circulating fake money in the Qurbani cattle hats.


Campaign against fake money traders is continuing and operation against muggers, 'Oggyan party', 'Malam party' are being carried out too.


The IGP said that many people will leave the city and go to their village homes during the Eid holidays. Besides, there will be crowding in tourist centers. "We have given allout instructions to the police keeping in mind all the issues for the safety of the general people."


He requested to employ a known and trusted person to guard the empty house during the Eid vacation.


Later, IGP visited Sadarghat launch terminal and spoke to the launch owners, drivers, and passengers and also inquired about the overall safety arrangements.


Finally IGP visited Kamalapur railway station and inquired about the passengers and also monitored the overall security arrangements of the railway station.


Senior police officers and other concerned senior officials were present during the IGP's visits in Gabtoli, Sadarghat river port and Kamalapur railway station.
