Will rub my nose on ground if police don’t play neutral role, says DMP commissioner

Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) commissioner Khandkar Golam Faruq has said that he will quit from his job by rubbing his nose on ground if police do not play cent percent neutral role in the by election to Dhaka-17 seat. The DMP commissioner said this at a briefing held at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka’s Agargaon area on Tuesday following a meeting of law and order meeting.

He said they have enough force to deploy during the by election.“We will do whatever is necessary as per the demand of the Election Commission to hold a free, fair and neutral election. I give cent percent guarantee. Observe July 17 by election to find prove of our neutrality. Tell me if you do not find it (neutrality). I will quit as DMP commissioner after rubbing my nose on ground,” said the DMP commissioner.

Faruq said, “Sporadic incidents of mugging were held in the capital during Eid. These matters happened unfortunately though even though we arrested many muggers before Eid. Police are on high alert about these matters.”

He said, “Operation is going on against the muggers. This operation will continue until the capital is freed from muggers. We will do whatever it is needed for this.”

About the killing of police constable Moniruzzaman Talukder by muggers, the DMP commissioner said, “We have arrested all the accused over the killing of the police constable. They were taken to court after interrogation.”

He further said, “Two people also arrested in connection with the killing of journalist Rakibul Hasan. A knife and motorcycle used in the killing were seized from their possessions. Another accused is under surveillance and he would also be arrested at anytime.”
