People have no interest in upazila polls: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Wednesday that people have no interest in the upazila elections.

He made the remark after a joint meeting at the party’s Naya Paltan office in the capital. “No one has an interest in upazila elections,” he said.

About the sanction imposed by the United States on former army Chief Aziz Ahmed, he said, “This sanction is a matter of shame for the nation, and the government is responsible for this.”He said the sanction is the outcome of using the army illegally by the government.

The people of the country will never accept that the army is being demeaned by the government, Fakhrul said. Replying to a query about the killing of a member of parliament in India, he said not only general people but also the members of parliament are not safe from the friendly country of the government.

“This government is a problem to the nation. They have destroyed the soul of the whole nation,” Fakhrul added.
