Opposition BNP-backed 'Blue' panel's secretary candidate in the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) election Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol has been arrested by police for his alleged involvement in assaulting and vandalism over counting of votes in the polls.

The Criminal Investigation Department (CID) arrested him from his chamber at Topkhana Road in the capital on Saturday (March 9) evening.

Kajol was later handed over to Shahbag Police Station. Jatiyatabadi Ainjibi Forum's leader Advocate Jamiul Huq Faisal confirmed about the arrest.

Earlier at night on March 8 (Friday), assistant attorney general Md Saifur Rahman Siddiqui Saif filed an attempt to murder case at Shahbag Police Station.

In the case, he made 20 people including Independent secretary candidate Nahid Sultana Juthi and Barrister Ruhul Quddus Kajol accused.

Besides, 30 to 40 unidentified people were made accused in the case. Nahid Sultana Juthi is the wife of Jubo League chairman Sheikh Fazle Shams Parash.
