Afghans beat Tigers by 17 runs

Afghanistan clinched the first ODI of the three-match series against Bangladesh by 17 runs (DLS) after rain interrupted play for the third time at the Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram on Wednesday.

Before the final rain halt, Afghanistan managed 83 runs for the loss of two wickets in reply to Bangladesh's 164.

Afghanistan got off to a steady star, courtesy of their openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz and Ibrahim Zadran who put together a 54-run stand before the former fell to Shakib Al Hasan while trying to up the ante after having scored a 45-ball 22.

Zadran, however, stood tall and remained unbeaten on 41.

Rahmat Shah was the other wicket that fell. The right-handed batter nicked one off Taskin Ahmed to keeper after he managed a 14-ball eight.

Fazalhaq Farooqi was adjudged the player of the match for his three wickets for 24 runs.

Earlier, Bangladesh managed to post 169 for nine in 43 overs. The target was later revised to 164 after the match was curtailed to 43 overs due to rain interruptions.
