Daily Bangla Times : The Policy Research Institute (PRI) believes that the government will have to collect additional revenue of Tk 2 lakh 34 thousand crores by the end of 2026 to get loan money from the International Monetary Fund or IMF.

This information was given at a press conference titled 'PRI Study Center on Domestic Resource Mobilization' at PRI's office in Banani, capital, on Monday (February 6).

The event was attended by the executive director of PRI. Ahsan H. Mansoor and Research Director MA Razzaq.

It was informed in the press conference that in accordance with the conditions of IMFA, an additional revenue of 2340 billion taka or 2 lakh 34 thousand crore taka should be earned in the fiscal years 2024, 2025 and 2026 along with the main revenue of the budget. Out of this, 65 thousand crores of additional tax will have to be collected in the fiscal year 2024.

Given the conditions, this target of internal revenue collection is extremely difficult to achieve. But there is no way without achieving.

Research director MA Razzak said that according to the conditions for getting a loan of 4.5 billion dollars from the IMF, the tax contribution to GDP should be improved from 7.8 to 8.3 percent in 2024 fiscal year, 8.8 percent in 2025 fiscal year and 9.5 percent in 2026 fiscal year.
