Daily Bangla Times:  Expatriates have sent nearly 113 crore US dollars in remittance in the first 19 days of May. The information was revealed in the updated report of Bangladesh Bank on Sunday (May 21).According to Bangladesh Bank, the country received 112 crore 92 lakh 40 thousand US dollars remittances in the first 19 days of May. Of which, 18 crore 46 lakh 80 thousand dollars came through the state-owned banks, 3 crore 79 lakh 90 thousand US dollars through specialized banks, 90 crore 18 lakh 60 thousand dollars through private banks and 47 lakh 10 thousand US dollars came through foreign banks.


Bangladesh Bank (BB) has taken various initiatives to increase remittance inflow. The central bank is encouraging various ways to send remittances through legitimate channels. On November 16 last year, the Bangladesh Financial Intelligence Unit (BFIU) told expatriates to send remittances to the country through legal channels or banking channels, keep loved ones risk-free and safe. The central bank urged not to send remittances through hundi or any other illegal channels. Mentionable, in the 2021-22 fiscal year, Bangladesh received a total of 2 thousand 103 crore 17 lakh US dollars as remittance, which was 2 thousand 477 crore 77 lakh US dollars in the previous fiscal year 2020-21.
