Daily bangla times: Kylian Mbappe slammed a hat-trick while Lionel Messi scored a brace but the latter one had the last laugh as Argentina won the enthralling final of Qatar World Cup 2022 at Lusail Stadium in Doha.

Argentina goalkeeper Emiliano Martínez made a brilliant save in the shootout before France's Aurelien Tchouameni missed his chance too as the Latin American side won 4-2 in the penalties after a thrilling 120-minute ended 3-3.

It was Messi who took the lead from the spot in the 23rd minute after Di Maria earned a penalty.

The lead doubled in the 36th minute after an exquisite style of team play involving Messi as Di Maria placed the ball into the net following a pass from Alexis Mac Allister.

Di Maria was substituted off in the 64th minute as Lionel Scaloni made a defensive switch by bringing Marcos Acuna in.

But Mbappe's two-minute show altered the momentum of the game.

He reduced the margin from the spot in the 80th minute after substitute forward Randal Kolo Muani was brought down inside the penalty area.

The PSG superstar made it all square in spectacular way a minute later with a stunning finish after being set up by other substitute Marcus Thuram.

Messi added his second in the 109th minute with a close-range finish off a rebounder before Mbappe got the equalizer again in the 118th minute from a penalty.

With his eighth goal of the tournament, Mbappe won the Golden Boot award. Messi has seven goals but accomplished his long-cherished dream to win a World Cup title.

Team News

Angel Di Maria has started for Argentina as coach Lionel Scaloni opted for a 4-3-3 formation on Sunday.

Di Maria, who has not started since the group phase and played only eight minutes in the quarter-final victory against the Netherlands, is on the right flank of attack, with Lionel Messi becoming the player with most appearances at the World Cup finals (26).

France coach Didier Deschamps reverted to his preferred lineup after centre back Dayot Upamecano and Adrien Rabiot shook off a virus that had ruled them out of the semi-final against Morocco.

Upamecano starts alongside Raphael Varane after the Manchester United defender also recovered from a virus, while Olivier Giroud starts up front flanked by Kylian Mbappe on his left and Ousmane Dembele on his right.
