EC Mahbub finds no opposition agent at his polling station

BD Correspondent: Election commissioner Mahbub Talukder said that he found no opposition polling agents when he went to Ispahani Girls School and College at Bara Moghbazar in Dhaka to cast vote in 11th parliamentary election on Sunday.

‘I have seen no polling agent of the opposition parties here,’ Mahbub told reporters after casting his vote in the morning.

‘You should ask the people posted here how the polling is going on. I don’t need to answer these questions. You can understand more than me,’ he added.

‘I am getting a lot of objections from the morning. I get a lot of telephone calls and there are so many objections,’ he said, adding that as a commissioner he had no individual responsibility now.

Mahbub, however, urged voters to come to the polling stations and cast their votes in order to protect democracy.

‘The nation expects a free and fair election. The election should take place and it should be acceptable. So, under the laws everyone should perform their responsibilities,’ said the commissioner, who by the time came into limelight for his dissenting voice in the Election Commission.
He called upon the voters not to keep their heads down for some benefits and fear.
