Bangladesh faces deep political, economic crises: Mirza Fakhrul


BNP hosted an iftar party on Sunday (March 24) at Hotel Westin in Dhaka in honour of foreign diplomats working in Bangladesh. Ambassadors, high commissioners, mission chiefs, charge d' affaires and other envoys from different countries attended the iftar.

British High Commissioner Sarah Cook, US Charge d' Affaires Helen LaFave, German Ambassador Achim Tröster, Australia's Acting High Commissioner Nardia Simpson and Indian Deputy High Commissioner Dr Binoy George attended the iftar party.

Besides, the diplomats of China, Pakistan, Sweden, Norway and Nepal joined the iftar party. The diplomats from different UN agencies and European Union took part in the iftar party.

Thanking the diplomats for joining the iftar, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said Bangladesh is now in deep economic and political crises. In such a situation, a unilateral election was held in Bangladesh on January 7 last which was not participated by the opposition political parties of the country.


Demanding the resignation of the government and holding a fresh election, the BNP Secretary General said their peaceful movement would continue until the realisation of the demand of an election under a non-party neutral government.


Mirza Fakhrul also called upon the international community including the United Nations to work for stopping the killing of mass people in Palestine.


Before the iftar, he also exchanged pleasantries with the guests.


BNP standing committee members Jamiruddin Sircar, Mirza Abbas, Abdul Moyeen Khan, Nazrul Islam Khan, Amir Khasru Mahmud Chowdhury, Abdullah Al Noman, Altaf Hossain Chowdhury, Zainal Abedin, Mir Nasir, Barkat Ullah Bulu, Abdul Awal Minto, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Ahmed Azam Khan, Nitai Roy Chowdhury, Chairperson's advisory council members Zainul Abedin Faruk, Fazle Elahi Akbar, Abdul Qayyum, Farhad Halim Doner, Suja Uddin, Ismail Zabiullah, Masud Ahmed Talukder, Mojibar Rahman Sarwar, Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Shyama Obaid, Aninda Islam Amit, Zahir Uddin Swapan, Shahid Uddin Chowdhury Anny, Kaiser Kamal, Asaduzzaman Asad, Fahima Nasrin Munni, Mir Helal, Moudud Hossain Alamgir, Shah Nesarul Huq, Ishraq Hossain, Atiqur Rahman Rumon, Shayrul Kabir Khan, and Shamsuddin Didar, among others, were present at the iftar party.


Besides, economist Professor Dr Mahbub Ullah, Professor Dilara Chowdhury, Professor Tajmeri SA Islam, Professor Shahiduzzaman, Professor Sukomol Barua, Professor Asif Nazrul, former Bangladesh Bank Governor Dr Saleh Uddin Ahmed, Supreme Court Bar Association president Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Manab Zamin editor Matiur Rahman, Inqilab editor AMM Bahauddin, former banker Bakhtiar Naser Bakhtia, former press secretary to prime minister Tajul Islam and former MP Golam Mowla Rony were present.


Following the iftar and Magreb prayer, the diplomats also took part in dinner.
