Mother helps AL leader to rape daughter, 3 arrested

Police arrested three people, including the victim's mother and a local Awami League (AL) leader, on charges of raping a teenager girl at Juri upazila in Moulvibazar district on Tuesday.

The arrested are the victim's mother, 40, Samsuzzaman Ranu, 60, vice-president of Juri upazila AL, and one Shafiqul Islam, 40.

Police said the victim, 15, herself went to Juri Police Station crying on Monday afternoon and lodged the rape case accusing the trio, including her mother.

The teenager girl said in the case statement that the accused Shafiqul Islam is an acquaintance of the AL leader and with his support, her (victim) mother got the housemaid work at Samsuzzaman's house three months ago where he used to live alone as his two wives live elsewhere for a long time.

Later on the advice of the house owner, the mother took her daughter there a month ago to help her work. During her stay in the house, Samsuzzaman has been looking for an opportunity to violate the girl. At one stage, he managed the victim's mother to fulfill his nefarious purpose and violated the girl several times in the last three months.

After that, the girl ran away from the house and went to work elsewhere but Samsuzzaman forcibly brought back the child to his house with the help of Shafiqul, promising that he would never torture her again.

But on March 1, he again called the girl to his room and violated her. After being violated, the girl ran away from the house again around Monday noon and took shelter in the police station. She then, told everything to the officer-in-charge of the police station SM Moin Uddin and lodged the rape case.

Sirajul Islam, sub-inspector of the police station, said they have arrested the trio and sent them Moulvibazar Jail following a court order. "Among the arrested, the mother confessed that she allowed and helped Samsuzzaman to violated the girl," he said.

Later, the victim was sent to Moulvibazar Sadar Hospital for medical tests and legal action are underway in this regard, added SI Sirajul Islam.
