An application has been submitted by Tangail district administration to get Geographical Indication (GI) rights for its saris.

The district administration on Tuesday submitted the application to the director general of the Directorate of Patents, Industrial Designs and Trade Marks under the Ministry of Industries.

"In any case, Tangail sari deserves to be recognised as a GI product of Bangladesh. We have been going through the documentation process for Tangail sari recognition as a GI product for the past three months. We applied today (Tuesday)," said Tangail deputy commissioner Md Kaiserul Islam.
