JS not to be able to function perfectly: GM Quader

Jatiya Party chairman GM Quader told parliament on Tuesday that the 12th Jatiya Sangsad would not be able to perform its duties perfectly.

‘Considering the number of seats, 75 per cent of lawmakers in this parliament are from the ruling party, while from independents, it is 21 per cent. They [Independent] are almost the ruling party. Only 3-4 per are from the opposition party.

It will be tough to find the whole nation in this parliament. This parliament will not be able to perform its duties perfectly,’ he said.

GM Quader, the leader of the opposition in parliament, said this while participating in an unscheduled discussion to thank the newly-elected speaker, Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury.

Quader called upon the speaker to maintain impartiality while discharging her duties in the house.

Referring to the seat of the government party on the right side of the speaker and the seat of the opposition party on the left side, GM Quader said, ‘Our target was that both sides would be equal. Then there will be an equal fight between them. There will be arguments and debates focusing on their own opinions.’

He said that the parliament will take decisions in favour of the people. That was the purpose of creating the parliament.

Referring to the results of the 12th parliament election, he said that parliament is a meeting place for all parties.

‘Here in the seat distribution, there is a lack of a symmetrical system. So, it cannot be called completely beautiful,’ he alleged.

GM Quader said that it would be difficult to find a complete nation in this parliament. ‘How far the present parliament will be able to represent the nation is a matter of apprehension.’

He made some demands, including allowing the opposition to raise their voice so that the parliament could function effectively.
