BNP's Dudu, Swapan on 2-day remand in pistol snatching case

A Dhaka court has placed BNP Vice Chairman Shamsuzzaman Dudu and the party’s media cell convener Jahir Uddin Swapan on a two-day remand each in a case filed for snatching a pistol and vandalizing Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh Police.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Rajesh Chowdhury passed the order on Monday after police produced Dudu before the court while Swapan’s appearance was ensured from jail virtually.

Detective Branch of police inspector Abdul Hai, also Investigation officer of the case, sought a five-day remand for interrogation in the case filed with Paltan police station.

Police filed the case against BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi Ahmed and 14 others and 300/400 more unnamed people on November 1.

According to the case documents, BNP activists are following instructions and instigations of BNP top leaders.BNP activists are vandalised police canteen and Liberation War Museum of Bangladesh Police.

They torched a duty post of police and snatched a pistol and magazine loaded with eight bullets from ASI Ershadul Haque, beating him indiscriminately. The other accused in the case include Syed Moazzem Hossain Alal, Emran Saleh Prince, Mujibur Rahman Sarwar, Shamsuzzaman Dudu, Habibun Nabi Khan Sohel, and Rafikul Islam Bakul.
