BNP Chairperson Khaleda Zia was shifted to the Coronary Care Unit (CCU) of Evercare Hospital after her physical condition deteriorated on Tuesday (October 10) evening. She was moved to the CCU of the hospital at around 6:30pm on Tuesday, her press wing member Shyrul Kabir Khan said.Khaleda Zia's physician Dr AZM Zahid Hossain, Abdullah Al Mamun and daughter-in-law Sharmila Rahman Sithi are now at the hospital with her.

A source said that due to deteriorating health, Khaleda Zia would remain at the CCU until she is allowed to go abroad for better medical treatment.Under the supervision of cardiologist Prof Dr Shahabuddin Talukder, a 19-member medical board has been closely monitoring her condition.A doctor from the medical board mentioned last Wednesday that there has not been any improvement in Khaleda Zia's physical condition.

Alongside liver complications, her doctors are concerned about respiratory issues she is going through, he said. The doctor also reported that fluid had been removed from Khaleda Zia's lungs and a catheter had been inserted.

Whereas fluid had to be drained every two to three days previously, it is now required daily, he added. The complexity of her kidney issue is increasing along with liver cirrhosis, the medical board said.

Liver transplantation appears to be the only option and the BNP chief urgently needs to be sent abroad, the board added."Khaleda Zia's risk of death is high and she needs urgent overseas treatment for a liver transplant," said Professor FM Siddiqui, one of the doctors on the medical board, during a press conference on Monday."Khaleda Zia's liver infection has caused fluid to accumulate in her stomach repeatedly. High dosages of antibiotics have proven ineffective. Fluid buildup has impacted her heart, resulting in her being shifted to the CCU twice," he cautioned.Khaleda, 78, has been suffering from various physical complications, including heart problems and liver cirrhosis. Besides, she faces health challenges such as arthritis, diabetes, dental issues, and eye complications. She was moved to the CCU twice last month. Before that, the former prime minister was admitted to Evercare on August 9 last with various health complications.
