India win 8th Asia Cup title by destroying Sri Lanka

Sri Lanka never lost a final at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. However, they broke that streak at the final of the 16th Asia Cup – where India won the Asia Cup title for a record eighth time by defeating the Lankans with 10 wickets in hand.

Sri Lanka were bowled out for only 50 runs in 15.2 overs on a day when Mohammad Siraj became a fearsome figure, which is the lowest run scored by the Lankans at home and the lowest in their cricket history.

In reply, India reached the port of victory in just 6.1 overs without losing any wickets in the final. The Men-in-Blues has given Sri Lankans the “sixteen arts of shame” with this 10-wicket victory.

Ishan Kishan and Shubman Gill opened the innings for India. From the beginning, the two continued to play on top of the Lankans. Ishan left the field unbeaten on 23 and Gill on 27 runs.

Earlier, the Lankan captain Dasun Shanaka decided to bat first after winning the toss. That was all the happy memories for the Lankans. Because after that, they could not breathe a sigh of relief for the bowling canon of Indian bowlers.

Before the start of the fight on the field, the rain delayed the game. The game finally started 40 minutes later than the scheduled time. Mohammed Siraj became a ‘fearsome figure’ on such a pitch. The Lankan batters could not find any answer in front of his ball.

However, Jasprit Bumrah started it. He sent Kushal Perera back to the dugout before opening the run score in the first over. The next story is only of Siraj. He took 6 wickets one by one.

Mohammad Siraj took four wickets in his second over. Pathum Nissanka, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Charith Asalanka, Dhananjaya de Silva, Dasun Shanaka and Kusal Mendis returned one by one.

Siraj took just 16 balls to take the first five wickets. Kushal Mendis and Dunith Wellalage tried to deal with the disaster by forming a pair of 21 runs in the seventh wicket. But it was Siraj who broke the partnership by taking Mendis’s wicket, who scored the maximum 17 runs for the team.

Hardik Pandya fell Sri Lanka’s eighth wicket in attack. Having lost eight wickets for 40 runs, the Lankans were in danger of whether they could take the runs to 50 for the team. However, they overcame it with Dushan Hemantha’s determination.

However, Sri Lanka could not take the team score of more than 50. Pandya put the final nail in the coffin of the Lankans by taking 2 wickets in the first two balls of the 16th over. This is the team’s lowest total at home.

Kushal Mendis scored the maximum 17 runs for Sri Lanka. Dushan Hemantha was unbeaten on 13 runs. No one else made it to the double-digit figure. Five of the team’s batters have seen golden ducks. Siraj 6, Pandya 3 and Bumrah took one wicket.

With this, India won the Asia Cup title for the eighth time. Sri Lanka has won this title six times. Besides, Pakistan has won the honor of being the best in Asia twice.
