HC grants Hefajat leader Mamunul Haque permanent bail in 5 cases

Daily Bangla Times: The High Court today granted permanent bail to Hefajat-e-Islam leader Mamunul Haque in five cases filed in 2021. The cases were filed with Paltan Police Station in Dhaka and Hathazari Police Station in Chattogran over violence and preventing police from discharging duties during Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's visit to Bangladesh in March 2021. Today, the HC bench of Justice Mustafa Zaman Islam and Justice Md Aminul Islam passed the orders following five separate petitions filed by Manunul seeking bail in the cases. However, Mamunul cannot be released from jail following the HC bail as he is arrested in several other cases, his lawyer Md Helal Uddin Mollah told. He said the HC granted bail to Mamunul Haque on the grounds that he has been in jail for more than two years but the trial proceedings of the cases were not finished yet. The accused was arrested from Jamia Rahmania Arabia Madrasa in the capital's Mohammadpur area on April 18, 2021.
