Lightning strike kills 8 in 6 dists


Daily Bangla Times: A total of eight people were killed in six districts due to a lightning strike during nor’wester on Thursday. Among the deceased, two were killed in Chapai Nawabganj, two others were killed in Satkhira. Meanwhile, four others were killed after being struck by lightning in Jashore, Meherpur, Rajbari and Jheenaidah.



The deceased were identified as M Shahin, 20, son of Abdul Kader and M Ashim, 14, residents of Shyamnagar union in Chapai Nawabganj; Abdullah, son of Ohed and Kamrul Islam, hailed from Satkhira Sadar upazila; Sahabuddin, 40, son of Alimuddin, resident of Mujibnagar area in Meherpur; Saidul Mridha, 30, son of Jamal Mridha and resident of Goalanda in Rajbari and Azizul Islam, 35, son of Kamal Sardar, resident of Sharsha upzila of Jashore.


There was a stormy weather with thunder bolt and rain in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon. According to the met office, a 74 kmh storm visited the city in the evening.



Although many people had to suffer due to the sudden rain, the city dwellers expressed satisfaction after the shower as they got a relief from the scorching heat.


Metrologist M Monowar Hossain said, “The highest speed of the wind in Dhaka on Thursday was 74 kilometer per hour in Airport area. Normally, the nor’wester lasts for five to eight minutes. But, the storm of Thursday lasted for 12 minutes in Dhaka. Thunder showers accompanied by temporary gusty or squally wind and nor’wester may occur in four divisions of the country on Friday.”
