Why You Should Avoid Ice Facials

Why You Should Avoid Ice Facials

Daily Bangla Times: We have heard about the praises around ice facials. We have seen endless videos of celebrities icing their faces. It definitely feels like a soothing way to calm your facial muscles and reduce puffiness. However, cold therapy does not have very long-lasting effects. In fact, along with the benefits of ice for the face, when done too often, it may have its own set of cons that can damage the skin. With summer almost here, many of us will turn to ice for stressed skin but before you do, here are some things that you surely would want to know. If used in the wrong way, even ice can ruin the skin.

Here Are The Cons Of Icing Your Skin

1. Rubbing Too Much Ice Can Damage Sensitive Skin

Sensitive skin is already quite reactive to many stimuli and this might add to it. Icing your skin can cause dryness and redness. First things first, absolutely avoid dunking your face in a bowl of ice. If you really need to apply ice over your face, then wrap a thin towel around the ice before applying it.

2. Do Not Apply Ice Directly After Being In The Sun

We love the nice cooling sensation of ice after being in the sun but this one is a big no-no. Clearly, there is a temperature switch as you come inside from the heat and then applying ice will lead to headaches due to capillary damage and can even cause irritation on the skin.

3. It Does Not Fix Long Term Skin Concerns

While your skin might feel refreshed, and rejuvenated, but this is clearly temporary. For a fresh pimple, we often turn to ice to soothe it but this isn't the best way in the long run. It might work momentarily but not more than that. You absolutely need a well-curated skincare regimen to treat issues like acne and more in the long run.

4. It Can Affect The Blood Flow Of The Skin

Ice therapy might sound like the best decision but when thought through, it can have quite some drawbacks. Ice affects the flow of blood when applied and when necessary, is fine to use. However, if you are already facing skincare concerns, it is best to avoid an ice facial or consult your doctor before doing so.

5. It Can Cause Frostbite

Frostbite is often caused when something extremely cold is directly placed on the skin for a long period of time. Ice burns can also occur if done too often which can further lead to skin damage and can even make the skin deprived of oxygen.
