Japanese mother can’t take children abroad: SC

The Appellate Division of the Supreme Court today (Mar 9) ordered that Japanese citizen Nakano Eriko cannot take her two daughters -- Jasmine Malaika, 12, and Nakano Laila Lina, 10 -- abroad until further order.

A seven-member bench of the Appellate Division, led by Chief Justice Hasan Foez Siddique, passed the order after hearing four separate petitions filed by Eriko and Imran seeking different directives.

The court also asked the authorities concerned to dispose of the appeal petition filed by Sharif, seeking guardianship of the two children, within three months.

On January 29 Dhaka Family Court granted custody of Nakano Jasmine Malika, and Nakano Laila Lina, to their mother Eriko Nakano. But after the court's order, Imran Sharif allegedly went into hiding with 10-year-old Lina.

RAB later found the father and daughter in Gulshan area and sent Lina to victim support centre as she was unwilling to go with her mother. Today, the matter came to the court of Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mamunur Rashid, and the court after hearing both the sides, passed the order.

Judge Durrana Rahman of Dhaka Family Court pronounced the judgment on January 29, saying the mother can take the two children daughters Nakano Jasmine Malika and Nakano Laila Lina to Japan with her, if she wants.
