First Khaleda's release, then her return to politics: Fakhrul

Daily Bangla Times : BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said the matter of the party Chairperson Khaleda Zia's return to politics will come after she is completely released from jail.

"Our demand is very clear, Khaleda Zia must unconditionally be released immediately, then anything else," he said.

Mirza Fakhrul said this to the reporters after he along with members of the newly formed committee of Jatiyatabadi Jubo Dal paid homage to BNP founder Ziaur Rahman by placing floral wreaths at his grave at Chandrima Udyan in capital Dhaka on Tuesday morning.

Mentioning that Awami League has no liability to people as it is not elected by them, he said, "They (AL) have been looting the country's money in a planned way since it came into power and is doing mega projects one after another to launder money."

The BNP secretary general said prices of daily commodities are now skyrocketing, inflation is rampant, people cannot buy rice, and OMS (open market sale) remains closed.

Now the government wants to sell rice by cards so that it can commit corruption in a new way, he said, adding, "Actually it is a corrupted government."

Mirza Fakhrul said there is no benefit in the power agreement with India's Adani Group, rather, Bangladesh has to pay a capacity charge for it.

"So, there is no alternative to this fascist government's resignation. For this, a path is ahead of us and it is movement, movement and movement," he added.

Stating the government is in a picnic mood when people are in a suffocating situation, the BNP leader said, "We are firmly committed to bringing change to government through movement and risking lives."

Democracy will be established in the country again if this government is resigned, parliament is dissolved and a fair and neutral election is held under a caretaker government, he added.
