Fakhrul asks Quader to publicly apologise for electoral fraud

BD Correspondent: Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday asked Awami League general secretary Obaidul Quader to seek pardon publicly to the nation for ‘fraudulence’ in 11th national polls.

Talking to journalists in Dhaka, Fakhrul came up with the remark responding to a question over Obaidul Quader’s recent statements where he primarily said that political parties would be invited to Gana Bhaban to discuss political situation with the prime minister, but later he said the PM would only exchange greetings with the party leaders.

‘They (government) cannot cover up such a big theft (vote rigging). Ask Quader sahib to apologise first to the nation at the stadium for making blatant lies, and for deceiving and depriving the nation,’ the BNP secretary general said.
After doing so, sit with political parties and ask for opinions to find out a solution, he said.
BNP-dominated Jatiya Oikya Front secured only eight seats in the latest parliamentary polls marred by widespread vote rigging and fraudulence.

Of those BNP got six seats and its ally Gono Forum secured two seats while ruling Awami League led-grand alliance got 288 out of 300 seats as election to one constituency was postponed.
Fakhrul was talking to the journalists on the premises of the Dhaka Medical College Hospital after visiting seriously injured Juba Dal activist of Jashore, Md Faisal Ali, at the hospital.
Faisal was injured allegedly by the attack of the ‘ruling party goons’ a day after the December 30 national election.
The BNP secretary general said the country became a hospital, saying that the Awami League forcibly grabbed power by looting the public pledges.

Then the government restored to the course of political persecution of the opposition in each district, upazila and union across the country, Fakhrul complained.
BNP vice-chairman AZM Zahid Hossain and assistant organising secretary Aninda Islam Amit, among others, were present.
