JOF to think over joining PM’s talks after knowing agenda: Fakhrul

Bangladesh Nationalist Party secretary general and Jatiya Oikya Front spokesperson Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said they would think over joining a dialogue with prime minister Sheikh Hasina if the issue of holding fresh national elections under a neutral government was there in the agenda.

He said the prime minister had talked with many political parties and fronts, including BNP, Jatiya Oikya Front and Jukta Front, before the 11th parliamentary elections and the opposition political parties participated in the election as well.
‘The prime minister has called for talks again. But we are yet to know the agenda. The JOF will think over it after knowing the agenda,’ Fakhrul said.

The BNP secretary general came up with the remark responding to a query of reporters while coming out of Hazrat Shahjalal’s shrine in the Sylhet city in the afternoon.

Mentioning that the pre-polls talks with the prime minister had gone wasted, Fakhrul said, ‘Now, we have one agenda —the cancellation of the election and hold it again under a neutral government.’

Responding to a question on existing difference on Jamaat-e-Islami issue between BNP and Gono Froum, Fakhrul said JOF president and GF president Kamal Hossain delivered his own opinion on the issue and that was not the position of JOF.
JOF leaders were yet to discuss or decide on the issue, he added.

The leader turned down any split in its political alliances and said, ‘Our relationship will not break off, because, we are struggling for the same demand.’

Fakhrul said they were not considering the upazila council election with so importance as it would not change the government.

‘But, it has already been proved that the present election commission is not qualified. Holding a proper election is not possible under it,’ he claimed.

Earlier in the afternoon, the JOF leaders reached Sylhet Osmani International Airport by a flight and then they visited the shrines of Hazrat Shahjalal and Hazrat Shah Paran in the city.
Later, they visited the family member of Sayem Ahmad Suhel, 24, of Balaganj upazila in the district, who was killed in a clash at Azizpur Primary School polling centre of the upazila on December 30.

Sayem was the general secretary of Balaganj upazila unit Chhatra Dal, student front of the BNP.

Krishak Shramik Janata League president Abdul Kader Siddiquee and its secretary general Habibur Rahman Bir Pratik, Gono Forum executive president Subrata Chowdhury and general secretary Mostafa Mahsin Mantu and JSD president ASM Abdur Rob, among others, were among the visiting JOF team.
The JOF has left Sylhet airport at around 8:20pm for Dhaka, Sylhet district BNP secretary Ali Ahmed said.

Prime minister Sheikh Hasina held talks with political parties including main opposition alliance JOF led by Dr Kamal Hossain in November 1-8 ahead of the national polls on December 30.
