TIB demands investigation of assets declared by nat’l election candidates

BD Correspondent: Transparency international Bangladesh on Monday demanded that the Election Commission and Anti Corruption Commission investigate assets declared by the candidates of the upcoming national elections.

In separate letters sent to the EC and ACC, Transparency international Bangladesh requested the agencies to crosscheck the declared wealth and actual assets of the candidates and their relatives.

We learnt from the news reports that the wealth of many candidates was exponentially larger in size than what they declared in the previous elections, reads the letter signed by TIB executive director Iftekharuzzaman.

‘It should be investigated whether they earned wealth legally,’ Iftekhar’s letters insisted while adding that Anti Corruption Commission should investigate sources of their income.

Transparency international Bangladesh also demanded punishments in case of any misconduct on the part of the nomination seekers ahead of the 11th parliamentary elections.
