BNP not to allow war criminals to contest polls: BNP

BD Correspondent:
Bangladesh Nationalist Party on Thursday said it would not allow any war criminal to contest the 11th general election with the 'Sheaf of Paddy', the party's electoral symbol.

‘I can assure you no war criminal will be allowed to use our electoral symbol Sheaf of Paddy,’ said BNP standing committee member Nazrul Islam Khan.

He came up with the remarks at a press briefing at BNP's Naya Paltan central office in the city.

As his attention was drawn that some Jamaat leaders submitted their nomination forms to contest the polls with BNP symbol, Nazrul asked, ‘Where is the problem to use our symbol by those who are not criminals.’

He also claimed that there were some freedom fighters even in Jamaat-e-Islami.

Jamaat sources said its 24 leaders submitted their nomination papers to the returning officers in different districts to contest the national election with BNP's election symbol.

Some Jmaaat leaders also filed their nominations to contest the election from different seats as independent candidates.

Replying to a query how many seats they are sharing with Jamaat, he said they did not share any seat with Jamaat as the party nominated its candidates to contest the election with their symbol 'Sheaf of Paddy'.
