143 new judges in lower courts

143 new judges in lower courts

One hundred and forty-three new assistant judges have been appointed for the lower courts, increasing the number of their judges to 1,844.

The law ministry has recently issued a gazette notification in this regard.

The new judges have qualified in the 11th Bangladesh Judicial Service (BJS) examinations, Deputy Secretary of the law ministry Mahbuber Rahman Sarker, who signed the gazette, told the media.

In the notification, the law ministry directed the new judges to join their offices from November 26.

Bangladesh Judicial Service Commission has selected the new judges through holding relevant tests and viva voce and recommended for appointing them as lower court judges.

Following the appointment of the new judges, the rate of disposal of pending cases will increase and the backlog of the pending cases will be reduced, Supreme Court’s Special Officer Md Saifur Rahman told this correspondent.

He also said around 30 lakh cases have been pending with the lower courts across the country.
