Full text of HC verdict quashing 8 cases against Khaleda Zia published

The full text of the High Court (HC) verdict, which quashed the proceedings of eight cases filed against BNP Chairperson and former Prime Minister Begum Khaleda Zia, has been made available. The verdicts have been published on the Supreme Court's official website.

On October 30 of the previous year, a High Court Division Bench, consisting of Justice AKM Asaduzzaman and Justice Syed Enayet Hossain, passed the absolute rule and issued the verdict to quash the cases.

Begum Khaleda Zia was represented in court by senior lawyers, including Zainul Abedin, Barrister AM Mahbub Uddin Khokon, Barrister Kaiser Kamal, and Advocate Gazi Kamrul Islam Sajal. On the other hand, Deputy Attorney General Md Jasim Sarkar and Russell Ahmed appeared for the state.

The cases were filed in 2015, with complaints lodged at Darus Salam Police Station on January 29, February 4, February 20, March 1, and March 3, as well as at Jatrabari Police Station on January 23 and January 24. Charge sheets were later submitted in these cases.

In response, Begum Khaleda Zia filed a petition in 2017, seeking to cancel the proceedings of the cases. The High Court had then issued a rule and stayed the proceedings. After the final hearing, the court granted the rule and issued the verdict to quash the cases.
